44 CDVs, including portraits of generals, other officers, and unidentified men and women, and 2 outdoor views. Subjects include:

"The Castle" in Vicksburg, Mississippi, ca 1863. Corinth, MI: Armstead & Taylor. Credited and misidentified as "Castle Thunder" on verso. -- General James Birdseye McPherson in uniform. Uncredited, but believed to be by Mathew Brady ca 1863. Identified in ink on verso: "Maj Gen. McPherson, Comdg. Dept. Tenn." -- General Joseph Dana Webster in uniform. Uncredited but identified in ink on verso: "Gen. Webster, Chief of Gen. Sherman's staff." -- General Gordon Granger, in uniform. Uncredited but identified in ink on verso: "Maj Gen. G. Granger." -- General John E. Smith in uniform. Uncredited, but identified in pencil on image and verso. -- Lieutenant Colonel R. M. Sawyer in uniform. Uncredited but identified in ink on image and verso. -- General James Lowry Donaldson in uniform. Uncredited, but signed and identified in ink on image and mount recto. -- An illustration of General Rosecrans in uniform on horseback, lifting his hat. Uncredited but ink inscribed on verso: "Maj. Gen. Rosecrans / Photographed from a drawing of Brother Ally's." -- Captain and Assistant Quartermaster William Alonzo Wainwright in uniform. Uncredited, but signed by Wainwright on image. -- And 35 others, including 4 portraits of officers in uniform, a studio portrait of a trio of men, 2 of whom hold cigars, and a view of an ox cart pulling tree bark outside of a brick building. -- Together, 44 CDVs.

[With:] A handwritten poem printed on a CDV-sized piece of cardstock, entitled "A dying Rebel after Mission Ridge" by A. F. Brooks, 1st Lieutenant, 105th O.V. -- And a printed illustration of "Wood Mosses" with color.

Consignor suggests this grouping was collected by the author of the poem featured in the above listing, Alden F. Brooks, though this could not be verified.

Alden F. Brooks enlisted as a corporal on 13 August 1862, and mustered into Company I of the 105 Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment a week later. He was promoted to 2nd lieutenant in may of 1863, and 1st lieutenant in February of 1864. After the war he joined GAR Post #5 in Chicago, Illinois, and eventually passed away in 1932.
